Good quality Demerara Syrup saves you time muddling sugar and Luxardo Maraschino Cherry gives a decadent richness for the garnish.  The single malt is up to you a personal favourite is Glenrothes with it's orange marmalade notes or try an Aberlour. Less sweet than a bourbon, the old fashioned is a touch dry. Just like the Scots humour!
